By now, I’m sure you have heard of a little something called “Let’s Play.” A Let’s Play or LP is basically where someone records themselves playing a game and dubbing commentary over it for viewing (usually on YouTube). The trend was originally started by a SomethingAwful (SA) forum user named slowbeef and it was meant to showcase the game. However, copycats on YouTube soon ran with the formula. Unfortunately quality and presentation were lost in these iterations and they eventually devolved into egotistical attempts to showcase the gamer instead of the game.
Why is this relevant?
SA users slowbeef and Diabetus started a new account called retsupurae (pronounced “ret-soo-pray”) which was a Japanese phonetic pronunciation of Let’s Play. Using this new account, they provided satirical commentary over some truly abysmal LPs until they eventually made the leap to a podcast. Thus, RetsuTalk was born.
While still relatively young in its life, the RetsuTalk podcast has been well-received by the internet community for not only commentating on gaming events on the internet and the industry, but also giving listeners and inside look at the people behind the voices. If you have good wireless service through places like http://clearwireinternet.com, then you should really check them out.
